Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton is an intensive care unit fighting for her life, her family confirmed.

McKenna Lane Kelley said the Olympic icon has “a very rare form of pneumonia” and is “not able to breathe on her own.”

McKenna was herself an NCAA gymnast at Louisiana State University from 2016 to 2019.

She said her mother does not have life insurance and she pleaded with the public for donations. Retton, 55, has been in an ICU for more than a week.

Retton was the first American woman to win the all-around gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. She also won a silver medal in the team and vault events and bronze in floor exercise and uneven bars.

Retton and her ex-husband, former University of Texas quarterback and Houston real estate developer Shannon Kelley share four daughters.
