The Biden administration is going after air conditioners and other home appliances that contribute to climate change and global warming.

According to Fox News, the Environmental Protect Agency (EPA) just announced a 40% production cut in 2024 for hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), the class of refrigerants which are used in a wide variety of cooling systems, including refrigerators and freezers.

The EPA considers HFC’s to be climate pollutants that increase greenhouse-gas emissions. Government officials are cracking down on HFCs as “an important part of President Biden’s plan to meet the climate crisis.”

As a result of the proposed 40% cut of HFCs, home air conditioner repairs will skyrocket in price.

Replacing refrigerant from a leak is expected to cost homeowners at least $150-$200 more than it used to, Fox News reports.

The worst of the air conditioner regulations, created at the end of the Obama administration’s term, has caused prices for new central air conditioning systems to spike by up to $1,000 this year.

The high cost for repairs will leave many Americans searching for alternatives to stay cool next summer.

Biden’s EPA is specifically targeting window air conditioning units, incandescent light bulbs, washing machines, refrigerators, dishwashers, ceiling fans, water heaters and other home appliances that make Americans comfortable in their homes.

“Hardly any room in your house will be spared,” according to Fox News.
